Two men in custody on drug charges

WASHINGTON COUNTY –Two men are behind bars on drug charges after Washington County SheriffÂ’s Office deputies conduct a traffic stop.  

At 4:30 p.m., on September 12, deputies observed a vehicle traveling south on State Road 77 going roughly 18 miles per hour over the posted speed limit. A traffic stop was initiated, and a check of the Georgia license found it to be expired.  

When deputies made contact with the occupants of the vehicle, a male in the back-passenger seat attempted to conceal his identity, by giving an alias and fake birthdate. No record came back on the alias given; however, the name Christopher Quattlebaum came back with an active warrant and picture identification matching the subject.  

Quattlebaum, 21, is a Washington County resident who was detained for further investigation. The other occupant was identified as, Kyle Robin Lazarus, 28, of Crawfordville. 

 K–9 Jet gave a positive alert during an exterior search of the vehicle, giving way to a probable cause search of the vehicle. During the search, several illegal items were found to be concealed in the vehicle.  

Both Quattlebaum and Lazarus were arrested.  

As
deputies placed Quattlebaum in the patrol car he was asked if he had
any other illegal items on his person. According to WCSO, he stated he did not because he had eaten the methamphetamine to prevent deputies from locating it. 

Quattlebaum is charged with possession of paraphernalia, fraud by giving false information to LEO and fabricating or destroying physical evidence.  

Lazarus is charged with possession of controlled substance without prescription and possession of paraphernalia.
